PSLE Science Tuition in Singapore

PSLE Science is one paper: thirty multiple-choice questions and around ten written ones. Most children lose marks in the same place — they understand the science, but not yet how to say it the way the paper is looking for.

The problem

Why take PSLE Science tuition?

Science is the subject where a child can understand something well and still not get the mark. The thinking is right; it's the wording that costs them. And because the examiner can only mark what's on the page, that gap can go unnoticed for a long time.

By P5 the paper starts asking why rather than what. A question might describe an experiment your child has never seen and ask what was being tested, what stayed the same, and what the results show. That's a skill rather than a fact, and it takes practice — it isn't something revision notes can give them.

It's also hard to build in a class working through one worksheet, because two children in the same room usually need different things. One writes too little and leaves out the reason; another writes plenty but never quite answers the question. The same explanation doesn't help both.

What it tests

Booklet A is 30 multiple-choice questions worth 60 marks. Booklet B is 10 to 11 structured questions worth 40 marks. Every question in both booklets must be answered, and topics can come from anywhere across the primary syllabus.

What we do in class

Booklet A carries more marks than Booklet B and takes less time, so it's often where the most ground can be made up — and where a rushed reading costs the most. Booklet B is where technique makes the difference: the same understanding, written two ways, can score quite differently. We work on them separately, because a child who finds one hard is rarely struggling with both.

Fit

Who is this for?

  • The child who understands it but can't write it down

    Explains it beautifully out loud, then loses marks on paper. It's the most common Science difficulty there is, and one of the most fixable.

  • The child who's strong on Booklet A

    Comfortable with the multiple choice, less sure once a question asks for a written answer.

  • The child thrown by an unfamiliar experiment

    Confident on topics they've revised, less so when a question describes a setup they haven't seen before.

  • The P3 or P4 parent thinking ahead

    Science starts at P3 in school, and the early topics are what the P5 and P6 questions assume. Starting there gives your child room to grow into the paper.

How we teach it

We start by finding out where the marks are going
The first lesson isn't really a lesson. Booklet A and Booklet B ask for different things, and children lose marks in each for different reasons. We'd rather know which before we start teaching.
The Round Robin Method™
Rather than deliver one lesson to the whole room, the teacher moves between students — a different explanation for one, a rewritten answer with another, a harder question for the child who's ready for it. The lesson keeps moving, but nobody gets left behind in it.
We come back to it
If something hasn't landed, your child doesn't wait a week to revisit it. The teacher returns within the same lesson, having found another way in.

Before you book

Common questions

Yes, from 2026. Booklet A now has 30 multiple-choice questions rather than 28, and is worth 60 marks rather than 56. Booklet B has 10 to 11 structured questions rather than 12 to 13 open-ended ones, and is worth 40 marks rather than 44. So a little more of the paper now rests on the multiple choice. The 2026 paper also assesses the 2023 primary syllabus rather than the older one.

Usually it's the writing rather than the understanding. Booklet B looks for the reason behind the answer, the right term, and a response to the question actually asked. A child can have all three clear in their head and still not have them on the page — which is a much easier thing to fix than it sounds.

Primary Science begins at P3 in school, so that's the earliest we teach it — Maths and English start at P1. P3 or P4 gives your child room to build the ideas gradually, which matters here because the topics carry forward: what's learned in P3 and P4 is what P5 and P6 questions assume.

Within primary, yes — a P3 and a P6 may well be in the same room. It works because the teacher isn't delivering one lesson to the class: they move between students, and each child works on material matched to their own level. Primary and secondary classes are always separate.
